1Start with your account
Risk is the amount you plan to lose if the stop loss is reached.2Set up your trade
3Check your broker settings
Forex example settings: 100,000 units per lot, minimum 0.01 lots. Confirm these in your broker’s symbol specification.
Enter the money lost per tick for 1 lot in your account currency. Required for synthetic indices; specifications vary by broker and symbol.
Lot limits & trading costs
Use executable entry and exit prices. Add costs not already reflected in those prices; do not count the spread twice. Overnight fees and gaps are not automatically included.
01 / Lot size
How big your trade is. A smaller lot means each price movement changes your balance by less.
02 / Stop loss
Your planned exit if price moves against you. A wider stop needs a smaller lot for the same money risk.
03 / Take profit
Your planned exit if price moves in your favour. A 2:1 target aims for twice the price-distance risk, before costs.
